Strategically navigating the hard times is the substance underlying the success of Mitchell Drilling. Three generations of Mitchells understood the importance of financial responsibility. George N. Mitchell's "don't give up" attitude and prudent management talents successfully steered the company through the lean times. George prepared the company in the late 20th century by retiring debt and rigs to prepare for the 21st century.
When “better days” came in the last few years, experience taught us that they would not last forever. Nothing ever does. Speculation and empty promises flourish when times are good. But world events, political and economic influences can affect our markets overnight, and then, success is sustained through common sense and the will to resist the extravagance of “better days”. Mitchell Drilling endures because of our experience gained from those who lived and worked before us...and from the wisdom to listen and to learn from their mistakes.

Biography


In 1976, George N. Mitchell passed the torch to his son, Chris, but it was a position that was earned with years of sweat and tears, not by blood alone. Chris started in the oil fields as a roughneck in 1966 at the age of 13. This was his only source of income until he graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a degree in geology. Chris Mitchell learned the qualities of leadership and calculated risk-taking from his father, George N. Mitchell. Inherent leadership characteristics emerged early for Chris. Today, Chris manages the company's growth, and his 'in the trenches' experience gives him a unique insight into all aspects of the business.
Biography

Ron Wooten, a Certified Public Accountant, began his career with Mitchell Drilling in 1981 as Chief Financial Officer. Ron is responsible for our safety program and policies. Through his diligence, Mitchell Drilling works continually to improve the level of occupational health and safety standards in all of our operations. Together, with Ron's guidance, our employees are consulted and trained in safety procedures and the prevention of accidents to ensure a safe environment in the field and in the office.
Biography

Carl has comprehensive oil field experience having worked as a driller and a roughneck in the Illinois Basin. Since 1972, Carl has supervised the drilling operations for Mitchell Drilling.

The nature of our business begins with nature. We believe we have a responsibility to plan and manage our drilling activities with a minimal amount of disturbance to the natural, cultural, and communal environment. Our environmental policy states that we will:
- Protect the surrounding land, air, and water from unnecessary pollutants and upheaval.
- Respect known archaeological, cultural, natural, or scientific sites.
- Plan and manage our drilling operations so as not to infringe upon the interests of other rightful land use.
- Conduct seminars and meetings to ensure that all employees and sub-contractors are aware of their environmental responsibilities.
- Comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
